One hour with pianist, up to three selections for voice up to two selections for instrumentalists. Sign up for one coaching at a time or buy a package of hours which can be used throughout the academic year (Sept 1 – Aug 31). Coachings are meant to enhance your work with your teacher, helping you reach a deeper understanding of your music more quickly. Instrumentalists will work on musical interpretation. Singers will also receive help with diction and poetic interpretation. With singers, winds and brass, breathing is often integral to the collaboration. Coachings cover the basics of being able to stay with the piano to advanced concepts like hearing where your melody line fits in relation to the piano’s harmonies. Work one-on-one with a faculty pianist or have a pianist come to your lesson. Working with a collaborative pianist gives you the chance to hear and practice the whole piece of music, while getting coaching supporting your work with your teacher. For vocalists and instrumentalists, your part is often only one half or less of the whole piece of music. Ability to provide basic improvisation (underscoring, chord blocking, etc.In UVMC’s Collaborative Piano program, UVMC individual lesson students have the opportunity to work with a faculty pianist in a variety of settings.Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.Ability to play a wide range of musical styles.Sufficient training in music fundamentals to read and play music.Experience and skill with providing piano accompaniment.In most rehearsals, an accompanist is charged between 50 and 80 per hour in most performances, the price is 50 to 80 per person (inexpensive recitals are a great source). The Accompanist has right of first refusal for memorial services, weddings, or interfaith services for an additional honorarium, according to the congregation’s standard schedule of fees. Almost all rehearsal and performance times are free of charge for piano accompanists. The Director of Music may schedule choir on Sundays when an accompanist is not needed, or when accompaniment is provided by other musicians. Any fee not covered by and/or which exceeds the rates listed here is the sole responsibility of the soloist. From mid-August through May, the Accompanist supports weekly choir rehearsals (Thursday evenings) and accompanies the choir at two or three Sunday services per month, on Christmas Eve, and at special choir performances. ![]() The Accompanist consults with the Director of Music on all choices of music or interpretation and prepares through personal study and practice for worship services and performances. The Accompanist will also be available to meet for rehearsals with service musicians. Sundays off are not to include major performances or religious holidays (such as Christmas or Easter) and are scheduled with the Director of Music. The Accompanist will serve as the service musician on all but one Sunday per month, playing hymns and service music.
